Shoe upper positioning is a critical process in footwear manufacturing, ensuring that the upper material maintains the correct shape and alignment before bonding with the midsole or last. Adhesives play an essential role at this stage, providing temporary fixation, shape stability, and support for subsequent molding operations. The choice of adhesive and its handling directly influence positioning accuracy and production efficiency.
1. Material Preparation
Ensure the upper material, lining, and midsole are clean, dry, and free from dust or oil.
2. Surface Treatment
Depending on the material type, perform roughening, wiping, or surface activation to enhance adhesive bonding.
3. Adhesive Application
Apply adhesive by brushing or spraying as required.
Ensure uniform coating and avoid excessive accumulation.
4. Drying / Tack Waiting
Allow the adhesive layer to reach an appropriate tack level before positioning.
5.Positioning and Forming
Align and attach the upper to the midsole or last, using manual pressing or mechanical shaping.
6. Curing and Inspection
Allow sufficient curing time and check the adhesion stability and contour conformity.
| Adhesive Type | Key Characteristics | Application Notes |
| Rubber-Based Adhesive | Light in color; easy to handle | Suitable for temporary upper positioning in both manual and automated processes |
| Spray Adhesive | Light color; can be applied with single-side spraying; strong initial tack; good water, heat, and aging resistance | Ideal for large-area positioning of textile and fabric uppers to improve efficiency |
| Chloroprene Adhesive | Strong initial adhesion; long tack retention | Suitable for leather and synthetic leather uppers that require longer holding strength |
| Water-Based Spray Adhesive | Direct spraying; environmentally friendly; fast surface drying; strong initial tack; good holding and heat resistance | Recommended for modern production lines with higher environmental and worker safety requirements |
