In the manufacturing of footwear, leather goods, and upholstery, bonding genuine leather presents challenges due to the material's porous nature, complex fibrous structure, and quality variations between batches-making it difficult to achieve consistent results. Our recently developed genuine leather primer L605 is a surface treatment product specifically designed for such high-end leather substrates, with the primary goal of improving the bondability of leather surfaces.

This primer offers good penetrating power and wetting properties, especially on sanded leather surfaces, where it can penetrate deep into the fibrous layer to form strong mechanical interlocking. Through cleaning, mild etching, and chemical activation, it adjusts the leather surface into a state suitable for adhesive application, providing a solid foundation for PU adhesives, chloroprene adhesives, or water-based adhesive systems. A critical step during application is the addition of 5–10% hardener R830 to the primer. This step increases crosslinking density, making the treatment layer denser and improving its resistance to heat, moisture, and plasticizer migration-thereby ensuring the durability of the subsequent bond.

Genuine leather primer L605 is widely used in sole bonding, leather panel lamination, bag assembly, and automotive interior bonding. It effectively prevents bond failure, delamination, and the degradation of adhesion strength over time. By incorporating it into shoemaking production lines, manufacturers can achieve more stable bonding with higher strength, significantly extending the service life of high-end leather goods, fashion footwear, automotive interiors, and other products with stringent quality requirements.

1. Before use, add 5% hardener (R820) and mix thoroughly.
2. After sanding and cleaning the surface of the genuine leather to be treated, apply this primer evenly using a brush.
3. Drying time: Dry in an oven at 55±5°C for 3–5 minutes before applying adhesive.
4. To ensure optimal performance, the mixed primer (with hardener added) should be used within 4 hours.
5. Apply the adhesive evenly and completely, avoiding insufficient coverage or excessive buildup.
