A grafted copolymer of chloroprene rubber and methyl methacrylate (MMA). Grafted adhesive is a type of adhesive made by grafting chloroprene rubber (CR) and methyl methacrylate (MMA). Depending on its application, it can be classified into different types, such as pure grafted adhesive, composite grafted adhesive, and hardened grafted adhesive. By introducing PMMA side chains into the main chain, it enhances compatibility with materials such as PVC, inhibits plasticizer migration, and improves the adhesion durability of substrates such as artificial leather. Its main components include chloroprene rubber, MMA monomer, initiator, and tackifying resin. The synthesis process requires control of parameters such as reaction temperature (85℃), initiator dosage (1.0% of CR mass), CR to MMA mass ratio (1:0.6), and nitrogen protection. A batch-drop addition of MMA solution is used to increase the grafting rate to 21.3%.
This adhesive features low viscosity (4000-5000 mPa·s), strong penetration, and good storage stability. Its bonding strength is close to that of polyurethane adhesives, but at a lower cost. It is widely used in the footwear and bag industries and is suitable for bonding materials such as PVC, PU, ABS, EVA, fabrics, and genuine leather. It can be applied by brush or machine. After double-sided application, it should be dried at 70℃ for 4-6 minutes before pressure bonding. Precise control of temperature, adhesive application amount, and drying time is crucial to prevent delamination or adhesive buildup. The color may change due to chemical properties during storage, and the adhesion is easily affected by temperature and humidity at low temperatures. The storage temperature should be maintained between 5 and 30℃.
